Dnia 22.04.2022 roku odbyła się konferencja naukowa online zatytułowana “Languages through cultures and languages”, zorganizowana przez naszą uczelnię. W spotkaniu wzięło udział łącznie czterdzieści pięć osób. Konferencja rozpoczęła się od oficjalnego powitania przybyłych gości przez pana Dyrektora, doktora Roberta Rogowskiego, który życzył powodzenia wszystkim prelegentom. Następnie głos zabrała wicedyrektor magister Anna Cetnarowska oraz opiekun Koła Naukowego: doktor Anna Biedrzyńska, a także przedstawiciele partnerskiej uczelni, doktor Guntars Dreijers oraz magister Ieva Vizule .
On April 22, 2022, an online scientific conference entitled "Languages through cultures and languages", organised by our university, took place. A total of forty-five people participated in the meeting. The conference began with the official welcome of the guests by the Director, PhD Robert Rogowski, who wished all the speakers good luck. Then the Deputy Director, MA Anna Cetnarowska and the supervisor of the Students Research Society The Linguist: PhD Anna Biedrzyńska, as well as representatives of the partner university, MA Ieva Vizule and PhD Guntars Dreijers.

Australian cultural traits in Covid-era humour
Prezentowanie zaczęliśmy od dawki dobrego humoru. Pierwszy temat, o którym mieliśmy okazję posłuchać, dotyczył Australii. Pani magister Joanna Loesch z pasją opowiedziała o dualności australijskiego humoru, a w szczególności o parodii, komizmie postaci oraz stereotypach, a także podała przykłady każdego z nich w formie krótkich, rozrywkowych filmików.
A little bit of comedy was our starting point. The first topic that we had an opportunity to listen to was about Australia. Mrs. Joanna Loesch told us about the duality of Australian humour. She especially pointed out parody, character-based humour, and national stereotypes. Her presentation included examples of each of those delivered as short, amusing videos we all enjoyed.

Shared cultural values concept in languages didactics through the example of mass media discourse
Następnie, Anna Waszau z uniwersytetu Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu przybliżyła nam temat wspólnych wartości kulturalnych w dydaktyce języków obcych. Na przykładzie środków masowego przekazu oraz języka angielskiego i francuskiego, poznaliśmy różnice w interpretacji wypowiedzi o charakterze kulturalnym.
Next, Anna Waszau from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, introduced to us the topic of shared cultural values in language didactics. We were able to recognise the differences in interpretation of the cultural utterances. Mrs. Waszau used mass media discourse as well as English and French as examples

Translation of Music Theory Terms from Latvian into English in Solfeggio Teaching Materials for Primary Schools
W kolejnej prezentacji mieliśmy okazję przeanalizować problemy związane z terminologią muzyczną, pojawiające się podczas tłumaczeń. Pani Anna Rudzite z Ventspils University of Applied Sciences na Łotwie, jako tłumaczka i muzyk, zaproponowała możliwe odpowiedniki dla tych terminów dla tłumaczy angielsko-łotewskich, aby poprawić jakość przekładów. Przedstawiła także różnice w łotewskim i amerykańskim sposobie nauczania muzyki.
In the third presentation, we had a chance to analyse some problems which are likely to occur while translating and interpreting the music theory. Mrs. Anna Rudzite from the Ventspils University of Applied Sciences in Latvia, as a translator and musician herself, suggested some equivalent terms that Latvian translators might utilise to improve the quality of translations. She pointed out as well the terminological differences in Latvian and American systems of music theory.

Influence of proverbs on Pidgin English in Nigeria
W następnej prezentacji, Katarzyna Mazur z Instytutu Studiów Iberyjskich i Iberoamerykańskich Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, przybliżyła nam Afrykę oraz pidżyn angielski i języki kreolskie, które powstały w wyniku kolonizacji. Dowiedzieliśmy się, że w Nigerii funkcjonują dwie nazwy na nigeryjski pidżyn angielski - ‘broken english’ oraz ‘naija’. Bardziej szczegółowo skupiliśmy się na nigeryjskich przysłowiach, których używa się w sytuacjach formalnych, artykułach czy literaturze.
As the next topic, Katarzyna Mazur from Institute of Iberian and Ibero-American Studies of the University of Warsaw showed us Africa. More specifically, we talked about the Pidgin English and the Creole, which were the results of colonialism. In Nigeria, there are two different names for the Nigerian Pidgin English, so we can call it the 'naija' or 'broken English'. Mrs Mazur presented the Nigerian proverbs in detail, and she explained as well that they are used in formal situations.

Contacts between languages: from cultural imperialism to linguistic imperialism. Lexical considerations regarding the use of Korean words in Romania. Linguistic behaviours and attitudes
W następnej prezentacji, Irina-Marinela Deftu z Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi, przedstawiła wzajemną zależność języka rumuńskiego i koreańskiego. Wspomniała o ‘hallyu’, tak zwanej ‘koreańskiej fali’, która jest niejako globalizacją kultury koreańskiej, jako imperializmie kulturowym. Poznaliśmy także przykładowe koreańskie słówka wplatane w język rumuński, jak i profil osób, które najczęściej korzystają z tych zapożyczeń.
The fifth topic was provided by Irina-Marinela Deftu from the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Ias, who presented the impact of the Korean language on the Romanian language. Mrs. Deftu told us about the 'Hallyu', which stands for the 'Korean wave', and this term presents the globalisation of Korean culture. Nevertheless, she connected it with cultural imperialism. We had a chance to get to know some vocabulary that is borrowed from the Korean language and now is in use in Romania. However, those terms are mostly used among people between the ages of 14 and 23.

Impact of English on Minority Languages
Następnie, Aleksandra Fecica w swojej prezentacji zwróciła uwagę na to, że angielski powoduje wymieranie języków, którymi posługują się mniejszości narodowe. Z tego też powodu został nazwany przez Glanville Price’a ”zabójczym językiem”. Co więcej, według UNESCO trzydzieści procent wszystkich języków jest zagrożone całkowitym wymarciem. Dowiedzieliśmy się również, że mimo że mniejszości narodowe posiadają własny zasób słownictwa, rozbudowany o specyficzne pojęcia, jak na przykład w języku ewenkijskim istnieją różne określenia na renifera, często wplata się angielskie słówka, co może być problematyczne.
Next, Alexandra Fecica paid attention to the fact that the English language has an impact on the minority languages and eventually can lead them to extinction. Furthermore, Glanville Price once called it even the 'killer language'. We were also told that according to UNESCO, 30% of languages are estimated to be in danger of disappearing. Mrs. Fecica explained that although minority languages have their own vocabulary like the Evenki language has different terms to identify a reindeer, they use some English words, which might cause problems.

Intentional Bilingualism
Z kolejnej prezentacji mieliśmy okazję dowiedzieć się więcej o przyswajaniu języka, jak i o wprowadzaniu dwujęzyczności zamierzonej. Zuzanna Jagieła przedstawiła trzy metody, z których można korzystać, aby osiągnąć ten cel - jeden rodzic, jeden język; język mniejszościowy w domu; czas i miejsce. Następnie omówiła swoją ankietę dotyczącą dwujęzyczności w polskich domach. Wspomniała także, dlaczego warto wprowadzić bilingwizm, jakie mogą wystąpić problemy w komunikacji z dzieckiem, najczęstsze reakcje społeczeństwa oraz wyzwania rodziców.
In another presentation delivered by Zuzanna Jagieła, we discussed the acquisition of a language as well as the introduction of Intentional Bilingualism. Mrs. Jagieła demonstrated three methods that can be used to reach that aim: One Parent One Language, Minority Language at Home, Time, and Place. She also analysed her survey about bilingualism among Polish families and provided reasons why it is worth introducing. Moreover, we talked about some possible problems in communication, people's reactions and challenges to parents.

Phrasemes and neogisms of road riders’ sociolect
Następnie, Alicja Pietryga z Uniwersytetu Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu, przedstawiła nam związki frazeologiczne i neologizmy w wyrażeniach związanych z jazdą na rowerze i sprzętem rowerowym. Pokazała nam również, że cykliści stworzyli swój własny socjologiczny wariant języka polskiego, nazwany cyclolect.
Then Alicja Pietryga from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland introduced us to phraseological relationships and neologisms in expressions related to cycling and cycling equipment. She also showed us that cyclists created their own sociological variant of the Polish language, called cyclolect.

Ambiguities in George Orwell's novel 1984 and understanding their intention and meaning
Līga Čirka z Riga English Grammar School, Latvia, zaprezentowała temat o identyfikacji przykładów dwuznaczności w powieści dystopijnej George'a Orwella 1984 i analizując ją w wybranych kontekstach książki, sytuacji historycznej oraz osobistych poglądów i doświadczeń autora.
Līga Čirka from Riga English Grammar School, Latvia presented a topic about identifying ambiguous examples in George Orwell’s dystopian fiction novel 1984 and analysing the relevant contexts of the book, the historical situation and the author’s personal views and experiences.

The place of consciousness in Chomskyan linguistics
Amadeusz Lis z Uniwersytetu Opolskiego, swoją prezentację poświęcił językoznawstwu Chomsky’ego oraz rozważaniom na temat miejsca świadomości. Opowiedział nam również o teorii powstawania języka.
Amadeusz Lis from Uniwersytet Opolski, Poland devoted his entire presentation to Chomsky linguistics. He also considered and pondered about the place of consciousness. He also told us about the theory of language formation.
Joanna Mirek
The notion of ‘correction’ in translation and interpreting
Joanna Mirek z Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II, przedstawiła nam różnicę między tłumaczem słowa pisanego (translator) a tłumaczem słowa mówionego (interpretator). Opisała, jak wyglądają tłumaczenia symultaniczne i konsekutywne. Wspomniała również, że autokorekta jest równie ważna w tłumaczeniu i interpretacji, a w szczególności w tłumaczeniu symultanicznym.
Joanna Mirek from The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland introduced us to the difference between a translator of the written word (translator) and a translator of the spoken word (interpreter). She described what simultaneous and consecutive interpreting looks like. She also mentioned that self-correction is equally important in translation and interpretation and particularly in simultaneous translation.

Speech and Language Consequences of COVID-19 in Polish Adults - 3 Case Studies
Paulina Krzeszewska z Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach, pokazała nam jak covid wpłyną na naszą umiejętność posługiwania się językiem. Przedstawiła trzy badane przypadki, które były oceniane na podstawie:
● Wywiad
● Ekspresja i artykulacja wymowy
● Percepcja i rozumienie mowy
● Anatomia i fizjologia kompleksu ustno-twarzowego
● Kinestezja jamy ustnej
● Test połykania wody
Paulina Krzeszewska from the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland, showed us how covid influenced our ability to use language. She presented three study cases that were assessed on the basis of:
● interview
● speech expression and articulation
● speech perception and understanding
● anatomy and physiology of orofacial complex
● oral kinesthesia
● water swallow test

Love Island
Ines Załęska-Olszewska z Uniwersytetu Jana Długosza w Częstochowie, pokazała nam jak hasztagi wpływają na popularne reality show oraz jak ułatwiają komunikację między fanami programów. Co więcej, poszerzyła naszą wiedzę na temat jak wiele firm używa hasztagów do reklamowania swoich produktów oraz jak ułatwiają nam one wyszukiwanie informacji.
Ines Załęska-Olszewska from Jan Długosz University in Częstochowa, Poland showed us how hashtags influence popular reality shows and how they facilitate communication between fans of programs. Moreover, it has broadened our knowledge of how many companies use hashtags to advertise their products and how they make it easier for us to find information.

Polish-Turkish encounters – breaking the stereotypes
Członkowie Koła Naukowego Lingwista oraz Osman Cakir, Cemre Nur Yılmazoğlu, Ozan Akçam, Yesna Eltaş i Serpil Kara z Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen Üniversitesi - Ibrahim Cecen University of Agri, Turkey, przybliżyli nam kulturę Polski i Turcji oraz pokazali, jak Polska jest postrzegana przez Turków oraz jak Turcja jest postrzegana przez Polaków. Poprzez dane z ankiet, które zostały zamieszczone w prezentacji, dowiedzieliśmy się jakie są różnice i podobieństwa kulturowe.
Members of the Students Research Society The Linguist and Osman Cakir, Cemre Nur Yılmazoğlu, Ozan Akçam, Yesna Eltaş, and Serpil Kara from Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen Üniversitesi - Ibrahim Cecen University of Agri, Turkey introduced us to the culture of Poland and Turkey and showed how Poland is perceived by Turks and how Turkey is perceived by Poles. Through the survey data included in the presentation, we learned about the cultural differences and similarities.
W międzyczasie pojawiło się wiele pytań do osób przedstawiających poszczególne tematy, z których rozwijały się inspirujące dyskusje. Ostatecznie konferencję skończyliśmy o godzinie czternastej, nieco po przewidywanym czasie. Aleksandra Fecica oraz opiekunowie Koła: doktor Anna Biedrzyńska oraz doktor Monika Zięba-Plebankiewicz, podziękowali wszystkim uczestnikom za chęć udziału i przygotowanie ciekawych prezentacji oraz profesorom partnerskiej uczelni i osobom prowadzącym i koordynującym poszczególne części konferencji, a także wyrazili chęć dalszej współpracy. Guntars Dreijers i Ieva Vizule także zabrali głos, aby podsumować swoje odczucia na temat konferencji.
During the conference, there were a lot of various questions that led us to some inspiring debates. The meeting ended even after the expected time. Aleksandra Fecica and supervisors of our Student Research Society, Ph.D. Anna Biedrzyńska and Ph.D. Monika Zięba-Plebankiewicz showed their gratitude to all the guests and presenters, the professors of the partner university and people who had coordinated particular parts of the conference. They also expressed willingness to meet in the future. Also, PhD Guntars Dreijers and MA Ieva Vizule summarised their own feelings about the presentations and the meeting.
